What is laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal is a medical procedure that uses a laser beam to remove unwanted hair.

Throughout this procedure, a laser emits a wavelength of light absorbed by the pigment in your hair.

The light energy is converted to heat. This damages the tube-shaped sacs within the skin (hair follicles) that produce hairs. This damage inhibits or delays future hair growth.

Although laser hair removal effectively delays hair growth for long periods, it usually doesn’t end in permanent hair removal.

Are laser hair removal treatments painful?

In most cases, treatments are painless, especially when compared to other treatments such as waxing. Many of our patients describe the sensation as being snapped by a rubber band.

Keep in mind that the amount of pain experienced during laser hair removal depends on the treatment area and your individual pain tolerance.

How does laser hair removal work?

During laser hair removal, a laser emits a wavelength of light that gets absorbed by your hair.

The light energy is converted to heat, which harms the hair-producing tube-shaped sacs within the skin (hair follicles). This delays your hair growth.

This treatment works best for people who have light skin and dark hair, but it can be done on all skin types.

At Dermal Aesthetic Clinic, we use the Venus Velocity medical grade diode laser machine for hair removal. We chose this brand because of its proven efficacy, which is setting the new gold standard.

How often do I need to get laser hair removal treatment?

In Dermal Aesthetic Clinic, the standard interval between facial hair removal sessions is 4 weeks. The interval for body hair removal is extended to 6 weeks in our practice.

How often do I need maintenance laser hair removal?

Maintenance requires you to do additional treatments every 3 to 12 months depending on your hair growth cycle.

Once your practitioner has evaluated the treatment area and decided that you have gotten the best outcomes possible, they’ll move you to top-up treatments.

This is done to guarantee smooth, silky skin and to prolong the results of your treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

In Dermal Aesthetic Clinic, we perform laser hair removal treatment on teenagers as young as 18 years old.

Note that hair growth can be quicker in teenagers, and hormonal changes can have an effect on them. Once these hormonal changes have stabilised, the effects of laser treatment are likely to be permanent.

Although the hair may take up to 6 months to regrow, it’s a decision that should be carefully examined.

No. Despite the fact that there’s no clinical evidence that laser hair removal might harm babies, most reputable clinics don’t service pregnant women.

This is mainly because the long-term effects are unclear. Therefore, it’s best to be safe and postpone your treatments until after the baby is born.

Yes, all skin types can benefit from laser hair removal. This is because our new machines can adjust to varied skin tones and ensure proper treatment.

It’s worth saying that laser hair removal works best on patients with pale skin and dark hair. If you have red hair, you’ll need more sessions since your hair follicles contain less melanin.

It’s less effective on tanned skin or hair that’s been sun-bleached. If you have a tan, you should wait for it to fade before getting laser treatment. People with darker skin tones might develop temporary hyper-pigmentation of the skin in the treatment area.

No, it cannot be performed over tattoos. Keep this in mind if you want to get any new tattoos moving forward.

Yes, laser hair removal is a great solution for men. This is because laser treatments can heal most of the face and body without causing ingrown hairs.

Laser hair removal doesn’t cause the irritation that men experience when shaving facial hair. Instead, laser treatments make it simple to remove hair, from a little patch to the entire back.

Yes, you can shave in between laser hair removal treatment sessions. Over the course of treatment, you can shave off hair that may regrow.

You’ll find that you don’t need to shave as much after your first laser hair removal treatment at Dermal Aesthetic Clinic. After 2-3 sessions, you might only need to shave once every 4-6 weeks.

Here are five of the advantages of laser hair removal treatment:

Reduces ingrown hairs

Ingrown hairs can be caused by shaving, waxing, and other hair removal treatments. They can cause skin pigmentation, specially on deep skin tones.

If you’re sensitive to ingrown hairs, this treatment would be a great solution for you. With this treatment, you won’t have to worry about those nasty hairs growing back. This is because the hair is destroyed right at the hair root.

Provides permanent hair reduction

Laser hair removal provides permanent, long-term results for the majority of people. At bare minimum, you’ll notice a permanent reduction in hair growth that’ll be easier to manage over time.

In some cases, a touch-up may be needed a few months or years later, but laser hair removal is still one of the best long-term solutions available.

Provides softer and smoother skin

Nothing beats falling into bed with smooth legs or heading out onto the beach with complete confidence that there are no hairs poking out.

There are several ways to achieve beautiful, smooth skin, such as waxing or shaving, but most options require a lot of upkeep.

Laser hair removal is an excellent approach to simplify your cosmetic routine. It gives you the courage to show off your beautiful skin at all times.

This treatment is a safe way to stop hair follicles from producing body hair. It removes the need for shaving and waxing, leaving your skin smooth and free of stubble.

It can remove hair from any part of the body

Laser technology is incredibly precise. This makes laser hair removal an ideal choice for people who want to target and remove a few specific hairs.

Any area of the body can be treated with laser hair removal, except the eyelashes. Even if you want to remove small areas of hair from bikini line, upper lip, nose, or around the eyebrows, laser hair removal is great for you.

It’s best for areas like the back and bikini line that are difficult to get to with razors and very unpleasant to wax.

It’s cost effective

Because laser hair removal is a long-term solution, over the course of your life, you’ll save thousands of pounds.

With permanent hair reduction, you won’t need monthly waxes or razor blade replacements.

The most typical side effects are minor and last for one to three days. These include:

  • Discomfort.
  • Redness.
  • Swelling.
  • Blistering.
  • Scarring.
  • Skin lightening or darkening.

Skin colour usually returns to normal over time. However, some skin colour changes are permanent. This is why it’s essential to visit an aesthetic clinic that specialises in laser treatments and has a thorough understanding of the skin.

It’s also important to follow the clinic’s instructions. Following both the before and after-treatment advice will reduce the risk of side effects.

There is no evidence that laser hair removal can cause skin cancer.

Laser treatment for each part of the body might take anything between 15 minutes to an hour. However, if you want to have the full-body treatment all at once, it might take between 2 to 3 hours.

The length of your sessions will also vary depending on the amount of unwanted hair, your gender, and your size.

The majority of patients that received laser treatment in the Dermal Aesthetic Clinic didn’t grow hair for years. Even if some of your hair grows back, it will likely be less obvious.

Some patients might need follow-up sessions and repeated treatments to keep the area hair-free. In order to achieve full effects, each treatment will partially destroy hair follicles.

For initial hair removal, you’ll need six laser hair removal sessions. This will slightly vary depending on the skin and hair type, the skin’s surface, and the treatment area.

You might need maintenance treatments as well. Men usually need six more sessions on top of the initial hair removal session.

In order to get prepared for your first treatment, you need to:

  • Shave the treatment area at least 24 hours before your treatment is performed.
  • Avoid chemical peels at least 4 weeks prior to your treatment.
  • Avoid laser resurfacing treatments at least 4 weeks prior to your treatment.
  • Make sure you have bare skin. This means no cream, no fake tan, no deodorants and perfumes.
  • Avoid sun exposure for at least two weeks before treatment. So if you have tanned skin, wait for at least two weeks.
  • Avoid any retinoid contained products for two weeks.

Consult a medical doctor if you have any specific medical issues (such as Multiple Sclerosis) for which you’re taking heat-sensitive medication. You can still receive laser hair removal treatment, but we want to ensure it from your doctor’s end!
